PATRICK HUGHES Great Britain 1939 -
Fifty years after his first exhibition, Patrick Hughes remains one of the UK's most popular artists. After having held his first exhibition aged just 21, Hughes became best known for his bold, iconic images, and flirtation with optical illusions.
Born in Birmingham in 1939, Hughes went on to teach at the Leeds College of Art before becoming an independent artist. His unforgettable rainbow series, best known as postcards, have sold millions of copies, and his early works continue to excite. Hughes has also written and collated three books on visual verbal rhetoric.
