FRANK HODGKINSON  Australia    1919 -2001

Frank Hodgkinson was a mid 20th century painter, illustrator and cartoonist,  a war artist with the AIF during WW2 where served with distinction, being twice mentioned in Dispatches before re-locating to Europe where he spent a number of years living, studying and exhibiting in Europe, particularly in Madrid, Paris, Florence and London where he was twice ‘hung on-the-line’ at the Royal Academy before returning to Australia. He was most prolific when producing artwork based on his journeys.  He kept diaries and sketchbooks  which provided a catalyst for his major paintings, water colours and prints. In 1971 Hodgkinson took up residence in the bush north of Melbourne at Dunmoochin on the invitation of Clifton Pugh Pugh who introduced Hodgkinson to oil viscosity printing.
